To begin writing WML , a simple text editor such as Microsoft notepad would be sufficient .However in order to provide better familiarity with the WAP environment a developer toolkit is suggested. This provides tools to view the WML in a specific WAP – browser compatible environment.Nokia,Motorala,Ericcson and phone.com all offer free developer toolkits to test their bowsers and device functionality: they require a quick registration at each of their web sites. Using one of the SDKs (Software Development Kit) helps you to familiarize with the development challenges of the WAP environment and to develop successful wireless applications.When we register with phone.com's developer program,we can download the UP.SDK from its website. The UP.SDK is a free kit that allows web developers to create HTML and WML applications. The SDK includes the UP.Simulator that simulates the performance of UP.Browser- enabled devices. It also calls for JRE (Jave Runtime environment) v1.2.2 or higher, which is available for free download as well. The Nokia WAP developer forum provides Nokia WAP developer toolkit,on registration with their site.Early Erricsson's developer's zone also provides Ericcson service development kit . They provide an integrated development environment for both voice and data applications. |
