| Video Optimization Tips & Techniques |
Many of the websies owners are including videos on their websites to promote their products and services by attracting more visitors. Many search engines are providing the video search results. Hence it is important to optimize a video for the better search results. Here I have provided some basic tips to optimize a video.
The following are the best practices of video optimization that you should use when implementing your on-site video marketing campaign:
* Choose Keyword-rich file name: This is one of the most important video optimization techniques for any website. Don’t just name your video something generic like video1 or video-of-me-and-billy. Instead, give your video a keyword-rich file name. The keywords you are promoting for your business and services should be included in the video file name. This is a keyword optimize file name that will give you a big search engine optimziation boost in the search engines.
*Include a Text Description : Unlike image optimization, videos don’t use alt tags. However, you can use a text description below or beside the video to give it an additional SEO boost. The description should be 2-3 sentences. And you should use your keyword a couple of times in the description to ensure that the search engines understand what the video is about.
* Include a share button: If you allow your site visitors an opportunity to share your video with others on their favorite social networks or send the video by e-mail to a friend you’ll increase your traffic to that page dramatically. Increased traffic can lead to higher search engine rankings, particularly if you have a low bounce rate (and if people are watching your video you’ll have a low bounce rate).
*Sitemaps. Google is somewhat limited in what video content they include in SERPs, and video sitemaps are a recommended way to give Google information about the video content of your site. You can learn about the video sitemaps here
*RSS Feeds. Google loves to crawl RSS feeds of various types, and this includes RSS feeds that focus on video content. Because RSS files are smaller than standard web pages, and easier for the search engines to parse, an RSS index of new video content can give your site a leg up in getting video content crawled and indexed. More info on MRSS can be found here
*Metadata. Because search engines do not generally analyze the content of video files (yet, at least as far as they will admit), metadata is the best source for search engines to determine what your video is about. Keep the title short, descriptive and on-target. Make sure your description likewise matches the content of the video, and keep the keywords light, focused on the most imporatant themes of the video. Avoid duplicating keywords.
*Be consistent when distributing your video. Use similar keywords, descriptions and tags when distributing your content through various channels. In search engines that cover multiple video sites, this will give you more opportunities to show up for your target term. For single-site searches, this can help with related views, as viewers follow the trail from one video to another, bringing them to your video.
